SUMMARY

The findings from this study show that ERP projects are getting better results when focused on integrating people, processes and technology. This ERP research examines the selection of software and implementation trends across sectors, company sizes, and countries.

According to the paper, less than 50% of companies are using ERP consultants for change management and/or business process management services. This means that few companies are realizing expected business benefits. This is another proof that technology-focused projects are not as successful as projects focused on integrating people, processes and technology.

The document notes that companies are still having difficulties with their projects when it comes to budget and timeline overruns. The reason for this could be the lack of focus on change management and business process management, the research adds. But it could also be because not few ERP consultants tend to be audit and accounting firms which are not completely specializing in ERP. The research suggests that it looks like that these ERP consultants are not establishing reasonable expectations about the challenges that might take place.

The report also recommends companies to invest in data strategies and migration initiatives as soon as possible. The reason for this is that database performance will be a KPI for ERP in 2019. Companies should focus on training their staff and getting processes ready before choosing technology, the report concludes.
