Preparing for Disruption, Leading the Transformation

SUMMARY

This IBM report on blockchain in the education sector notes that blockchain allows students to own and have control of their information without changing their degrees or certifications.

The paper also highlights the importance of students' data protection and privacy. In that respect, several companies, institutions and standards organizations, and blockchain education firms are already working on the preservation of these rights.

It is also paramount, the paper shows, that educational institutions, and organizations start changing how to measure, record, and credential student accomplishments and skills, and how to secure these records over time.

According to this IBM study, blockchain is enabling the emergence of new funding models. DLT allows alternative ways to pay for education, and therefore more people from diverse backgrounds can get involved without burdening students and their families with debt.

The paper suggests educators to keep on changing their pedagogy to attract new students. Educational content is becoming more customized and adapted to the needs and skills of students with the emergence of innovative models of collaborative teaching and learning.

The meta-university is also broadly examined in this report. More people are getting involved in free open online courses (MOOCs), gaining skills and key insights from TED Talks, and similar platforms. Companies are also putting more funds directed to reskill their employees for newer jobs, rather than concentrating on degrees.
