SUMMARY

This report on eCommerce habits in Canada shows that 18-34-year-old users have a similar shopping behavior compared to 35-54-year-old buyers and that it is in fact consumers over 55 years old who show different shopping behaviors about online shopping.

The paper offers an overview of the main trends in the e-commerce landscape for retailers in Canada. According to this study, two-thirds of Canadian online buyers consider that free shipping is an essential element when deciding what site to purchase from. Therefore shipping related issues are among the main shopping influencers that Canadian online buyers look for.

The document also reveals that shipping costs constitute the main reason for cart abandonment for a good share of Canadian shoppers who leave shopping carts. Besides, the paper notes that despite smartphones' high penetration in the Canadian market, mobile commerce is much lower compared to desktop. Over half of those surveyed say that typing in checkout fields is a significant hurdle to mobile shopping.

The paper also takes note of social selling and indicates that nearly half of Canadians use social media once a month or more for inspiration to help them purchase a service or product online.
