SUMMARY

This report presents insights into China's important tech trends impacting the world's largest internet community.

According to this study, global technology firms are replicating concepts from their Chinese counterparts. The report highlights the importance of 5G for the country which is also launching AI in many fields, such as access control, customized recommendations, surveillance and smart city solutions.

The paper mentions that the country is designing a system to rank all the Chinese citizens according to their “social credit” by 2020. According to this research, millions of individuals and companies have been categorized as untrustworthy on an increasing blacklist compiled by China’s courts. These individuals and companies are restricted from a series of activities, like accessing financial markets or traveling by plane.

The paper shows that fresh grocery online commerce has become an important market with estimated market size of US$28bn in China. On the other hand, the short-video market’s growth rate is estimated to see a decrease after a 42% increase in 2018. Chinese consumers are now willing to pay for content, the study adds, and compared to US buyers, they are more actively involved with sharing platforms.

Regarding 5G, China could reach 460 million 5G connections by 2025, representing 28% of total connections in the country.
