SUMMARY

This research reveals that e-commerce consumers in China are willing to share personal data as they expect a more personalized shopping experience thanks to this.

This presentation provides a generic overview of the current state of consumers, the retail sector and E-Commerce in China. The information is presented in a schematic way, through illustrations and tables only.

Among the document's findings is that the number of high-income consumers has increased in most areas of the country. E-Commerce has also grown and is expected to continue increasing over the upcoming years.

The study classifies the main key trends in the retail sector in the following categories: what they called ‘Retailtainment’, new retail options such as Alibaba, mall saturation, a movement to multi-brand, and finally E-Commerce growth. The sectors that are experiencing the biggest penetration in online shopping are electronics appliances, followed by clothing and shoes, the research notes. Online buyers, it adds, are making use of a great range of online shopping platforms - a highly competitive sector.

Finally, the document highlights that it is crucial to understand the difference among regular online shopping in China, and what is described as ‘Cross Border E-commerce’ with China. The requirements for Cross Border E-Commerce are much more straight forward that when it comes to general trade or normal import processes, it notes.
