SUMMARY

This report reveals that nearly a quarter of data in the cloud is sensitive and that sharing of sensitive data in the cloud has gone up more than 50% year-over-year.

It is essential to control access and protect data from threats in an appropriate manner to avoid putting organizations at risk. However, not all is bad news and the cloud is still offering more advantages than threats to businesses, the report says.

An interesting finding from this research is that the average company generates more than 3.2 bn events per month in the cloud, of which 31.3 are real threat events. In addition, 80% of the companies surveyed for this report said they experience at least one account threat per month. Companies explain as well that threats in Office 365 have increased by 63% in the last couple of years.

The study shows that less than a quarter of all files in the cloud contain sensitive data, 17% compared to the past two years. It also indicates that the amount of files with sensitive data shared in the cloud has also grown significantly. Companies surveyed admitted that sharing sensitive data with an open link has gone up by nearly 25% compared with two years ago.

Among the findings of this report, it is noted that the average company uses just less than unique cloud services, which is 15% more compared with a year ago. However, the majority of companies estimate they only use about 30.
