Global opinion paper

SUMMARY

This paper on cybersecurity includes contributions from global experts on the importance of data protection in organizations and the impaxct of new regional data protection laws.

Zeina Zakhour, for instance, explains that 2018 has been a very important year for personal data protection as it moved at it is now among the main priorities of the board’s agenda for many firms. This was motivated in part by the adoption of new regional data protection laws in many places across the globe. Despite this, 2018 has seen an increase in high profile data breaches.

Farah Rigal talks about the value of data for organizations. However, since data is many times kept in various silos of a company, this could result in lost opportunities, she notes. It is important as well to evaluate the impact that these silos can have when this information is key for the organization's security. These silos of data can translate into low or no visibility of the potential attack surface, the paper indicates.

Charles Piron discusses the emerging challenge that the IoT represents, while Marc Llanes Badia explains why managed Internet of Things security services will be key shortly.

Vasco Gomes, for his part, talks about the cloud which enables digital transformation, and brings agility and speed. However, as well as bringing plenty of opportunities, cloud computing has also generated a wide range of security threats, the document adds.
