SUMMARY

This report aims at identifying the reach of international regulation of E-Commerce nowadays and highlights the importance of an integrated approach when it comes to online transactions' regulation.

The paper explains that in today's globalized economies, many transactions are subject to multiple regulations at the same time. The connections between regulatory issues generate a new complex scenario for transaction subjects and regulators due to the increasing figure of transactions available online.

According to the research, digitalization has made old modes of trade simpler while it has also created new ones, which inevitably makes the regulatory environment more complex. These changes in trade models have also to be considered from the perspective of a holistic trade agenda.

This study also notes that online shopping generally involves registration on a site where consumers have to fill in personal information and this leads directly to data protection rights - which have to be guaranteed throughout the whole transaction process.

The document discusses as well the impact that the provision of products online has on common commercial practices and the competitive environment. On one side, competition can make changes to suppliers. The highest performers would stand out and make market efficiency increase. However, competition could also hurt local businesses and make inequality rise. This effect can be even more hurtful in developing markets with not sufficiently mature E-Commerce regulations.

There is also a section in this report about online shopping and sustainability, which is considered a key part of the digital economy agenda. The paper examines the importance of E-Commerce for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
