SUMMARY

This report gives an overview of the state of emerging technologies with a particular focus on the Indian market and the following areas: Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, 3D Printing, Hardware Robotics, Automation, Blockchain and Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.

The report shows that investments and deals in certain areas such as automation, AI, machine learning and big data are making the start-up landscape flourish in India. However, a lot more needs to be done, the report adds.

According to this EY paper, India had the third biggest number of AI start-ups among G-20 nations in 2016. At present, around 400 start-ups are working on the AI and machine learning fields. As for the government initiatives in this area, the research explains that the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry has established an AI workforce to use technology for economic profits and offer policy guidelines on its implementation in India.

The report also explores the state of IoT across different geographies and explains that the US and China will the IoT spending trend in 2019 at US$194b and US$182b respectively. Japan, Germany, Korea, France, and the UK.

In India, several sectors including banking, insurance, retail, telecom, manufacturing, and healthcare are quickly adopting RPA. On the other hand, blockchain has the potential to change certain sectors of the Indian economy like the banking, financial services, and insurance industry, travel, retail, healthcare, and supply chain, according to the study.

The research also examines the state of Augmented reality and Virtual Reality and indicates that these technologies are going to be led by the commercial sectors. Their overall spending is expected to increase from 64% in 2019 to more than 80% by 2022, the paper notes.
