SUMMARY

This Ericsson mobility report notes that the total amount of mobile subscriptions was about 7.9 billion in the first quarter of 2019, which means that 44 million new subscribers were added during that period.

As for the main countries by network additions, the paper reveals that China leads the ranking with 30 million new subscribers.

According to this Ericsson study, 5G has not lost its momentum at all and over the second quarter of 2019 a few markets launched 5G after the introduction of 5-G compatible mobiles. This report also estimates that 10 million 5G subscriptions are expected by the end of 2019 across the globe. As for the network coverage, 5G will be able to offer coverage to 65 percent of the global population in 2024. Besides, by the end of that year, 95 percent of all subscriptions will be for mobile broadband network coverage, the report adds.

Regarding the mobile broadband subscription per country, the research notes that over 60% percent of North American mobile subscriptions are expected to be for 5G in 2024.

The report also table a look at mobile data traffic growth in the first quarter opf 2018 and 2019 and suggests that mobile traffic is expected to grow 30 percent on an annual basis between 2018 and 2024. Most of this growth is expected to come from video traffic.
