SUMMARY

According to this report's estimations, the eSports audience by 2022 will reach 276mn.

This research on mobile and the gaming industry explains that eSports viewership is making its way into the mainstream and should experience a 14% audience growth CAGR for the upcoming years as a result of the increasing popularity of games such as Fortnite and PUBG.

Media rights are expected to reach 40% of total eSports revenue by 2022, the document says. As media rights and sponsorship keep on growing along as well as the formalization of pro sports leagues, total eSports monetization could reach $3bn by 2022 according to estimates.

The huge majority of eSports viewership is online. In the next few years, this report indicates that eSports content - and in particular live content - will keep on increasing in value, boosted by the audience reach and the engagement it commands, which represents an opportunity for the advertisement sector.

Regarding the geographical particularities, China’s eSports market is built upon the world's most important gamer base, with around 442 million gamers in 2017. China was expected to contribute one-third of the global game industry’s total revenue in 2018. On the other hand, there are 89 million eSports viewers in Asia, which was about 50% of the global audience in 2018.
