A career and lifestyle pathway

SUMMARY

Remote work and home office have increased significantly with the coronavirus pandemic and this report by Adecco and Linkedin reveals that people who can take on flexible work are embracing it as a way to achieve their own personal and professional goals.

Flexible work is just for 7% of individuals surveyed for this study a way to earn extra cash while carrying on their studies. For less than one-third remote working is a stepping stone to a permanent position, 13% consider that home office is a way to maintain flexibility while only a minority consider remote working and contracting a temporary option while looking for a permanent role.

Younger respondents highly value remote working and have in general terms a positive view of flexible working. The paper also points out that flexible employment is contributing to a quick rise in independent professionals taking on senior positions. This population segment represents now more than 15 million people in Europe and the US, the document says.

The research concludes that employers need to modernize their strategies, as well as market policies and education systems, as a consequence of the rise in professionals going for flexible working.
