An industry goes digital – faster than expected

SUMMARY

This report on digital health notes that healthcare systems in Europe will experience deep changes over the next six years.

According to the study, the market volumes for digital products and services will have increased to as much as 38 billion euros in Germany and around 155 billion euros in the EU by 2025.

The paper explains that digital technologies including artificial intelligence offer new opportunities in the healthcare industry though they are transforming the roles of the different stakeholders as well. AI will be an essential tool in the near future mainly in diagnostics, monitoring, and prevention. The paper found that around 20% of medical services could be replaced by this emerging technology.

Digital pioneers and wealthy tech companies have already started marking their presence in the healthcare market with big investments. Along that line, 60% of respondents expect large companies like Amazon, Apple, and Google to enter the sector over the next few years.

A large share of respondents expects players in the healthcare sector to align their IT systems and design platforms for the exchange of data. According to predictions, 70% of patients will share their records with insurance firms to be able to have lower premiums for healthy lifestyles.

This report is based on data collected from 400 healthcare experts from around the globe that were asked about their e-health predictions for the year 2025.
