SUMMARY

This report on mobile and the gaming industry explains that two-thirds of the U.S. population 13 years and older were considered gamers in 2018.

This is more than 50% more compared to 2013. The increase in gamers shows the evolution of the gaming industry and how games have become a key element of the entertainment offer.

An important share console players are using mobile and tablet gaming, though a bit less than in 2017, the paper adds. Overall, mobile and tablet gaming has gained ground and increased from 46% in 2013 to 60% in 2018.

According to this study, the launch of Nintendo’s Switch console, along with the launch of Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro and Microsoft’s Xbox One X, among other devices, could have made the popularity of PC gaming decline. However, the PC has a core group of gamers who much prefer the platform for gaming.

Besides, the document highlights that nearly 90% of the population in 2018 have heard one or more of the present generation consoles - 82% more compared to a year earlier.

Gamers that prefer to play on consoles prefer physical packaged media and spend less time playing than players who prefer PCs. On the other hand, PC gamers, who prefer digital media and would usually spend more time playing games. PC players would normally more money on games than console gamers, the research points out.
