An exploration of how the gaming landscape is changing

SUMMARY

This report on mobile shows that 40% of users surveyed for this report have an interest in gaming and believe that mobiles are becoming the most popular gaming device.

Gaming is most popular among 16-24 males (64%), although 25% of all 45-54s also expressed an interest in it, the study notes. More women mention gaming as an interest (19%) than men (17%) for 55-64s.

According to this paper, mobile gaming is very popular among Internet users in fast-growth markets. Over 70% of Internet users in APAC and the Middle East and Africa are gaming on their mobiles, the study says. There is room for growth in those regions, as Internet penetration rates are at their lowest across the globe.

Console ownership has seen a decline over the past years, though it seems to have stabilized as manufacturers are putting their focus on Western countries which have the biggest growth potential.

The research reveals that there have been consistent increases in daily time spent on game consoles among internet users for the last few years. The reason for this is because consoles pay a role in accessing TV content.

The gradual decline of PCs as gaming devices can be attributed to the decline in PC ownership, the paper says. However, PCs/laptops remain key to the gaming market.
