Global Talent in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

SUMMARY

The seventh edition of GTCI examines how the development of Artificial Intelligence is transforming the nature of work and leading to a re-evaluation of workplace practices, business structures, and innovation ecosystems.

The study shows that the gap between talent top countries and cities - nearly 100% of the high-income countries - and the rest of the world is becoming more obvious. The positive correlation is still high between economic performance on the one side and national talent competitiveness on the other, the paper notes. This is is also applicable to cities, which are aspiring to become AI hubs and attract key AI talent. Europe still dominates the top of the GTCI rankings as there are only seven non-European countries in the top 20, in the United States, Singapore, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, and Israel. However, regarding AI talent, the paper explains that the emergence of AI in the workplace requires significant re-skilling of the workforce.

The same as in past editions, GTCI 2020 top rankers include many small high-income economies. Not a few of these are either landlocked, island nearly-island economies. This list includes Switzerland, Singapore, Luxembourg, Iceland, and Austria. These countries have designed pretty open socio-economic policies that promote talent growth and management. Nordic countries are also part of this high-performance group. Larger cities, particularly in the United States are showing a strong performance too, the paper reveals.

According to the research, a proactive, cooperative approach is necessary to turn AI into a force for good. The document adds that when introducing AI to organizations or communities as a whole, acceptability is a condition for sustainability.
