SUMMARY

This report on cybersecurity reveals that attacks against the financial services sector represented 17 percent of the total number of attacks and that this sector has been the most attacked industry over the past few years.

The paper also mentions that there has been a notable rise in attacks against the healthcare sector in the US. Besides, web-application and application-specific attacks have increased twice as much compared to the previous year.

According to this study, illegal coin mining represented an important share of activity in 2018. However, other threats also challenged organizations as web attacks have escalated. The number of attacks against government and technology organizations has also suffered an increase, the paper adds.

The study explains that nearly three-quarters of all cyber attacks can be included in the following categories: web attacks, reconnaissance, service-specific attacks, and brute-force attacks.

The Education sector has always been a target for cyber attackers and coin mining campaigns in educational environments contributed to the rise in attacks in this sector. Coin mining traffic had also an important impact on the technology sector and is partially responsible for the relative gain of cyberattacks against technology firms.
