A field guide to multicloud management

SUMMARY

This report shows that although the vast majority of companies are having in place multi-cloud architectures, less than 40% have cloud configuration management tools with information about resource configuration and connections among resources.

The use of cloud computing has increased significantly across most organizations – there is very little doubt about its advantages. This report aims at offering more insight into the current state and future plans for multi-cloud management. More than 1,100 executives across 19 industries and 20 countries were surveyed for this study.

The research shows that 85% of companies are already operating in multi-cloud environments. In addition, most of these environments consist of multiple hybrid clouds. In fact, 98% of surveyed companies have plans to use multiple hybrid clouds in the near future.

Two-thirds of organizations consider that an actively managed multi-cloud environment is key to reducing operating expenses. Nearly half of the firms surveyed are already designing a multi-cloud architecture to deploy new products and services. In addition, more than half say that they use multiple clouds to create a flexible infrastructure that can quickly make the most of technological advances.

62% of companies need multiple clouds to create innovative business models, the report notes, whereas more than half require them to create alternative revenue streams and nearly two-thirds need them to have better margins. In sum, multi-cloud environments are critical to success in nowadays’s digital times.

Regarding cloud security, more than half of organizations surveyed have security and compliance concerns, and around a similar number have concerns about governance and control. Meanwhile, 56% indicate to have concerns about the management and optimization of cloud costs.
