2019 eCommerce Industry Report

SUMMARY

This study on eCommerce trends in Australia states that online shopping is becoming extremely popular and online spending reached 10% of total retail sales in 2018.

This is 2% more than the previous year. Online consumers in Australia spend over $27 in goods online, which represents a 24% rise year on year, the paper notes. The most important period for online shopping was Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This week was the biggest online shopping week in the country's history,

According to this paper, next-day deliveries increased significantly compared to the previous year. More than half of these purchases were fashion related. The research points out the importance of connecting physical and online stores and the necessity to develop a seamless environment for online buyers.

The main barrier to buying online, the report suggests, is that consumers can't feel the product's quality. For this reason, online retailers should offer a user-friendly return policy to increase their revenues. Consumers are also becoming more environmentally-friendly, which explains why brands should also become more sustainable in their business practices.

Regarding cross-border E-Commerce, the report notes that apart from the domestic purchases, products from Australia were mainly bought by online consumers in New Zealand, China, and India.
