SUMMARY

According to this report, 40m smart devices will be used across the globe by 2025, which amounts to 100bn connections.  IoT is boosting the digitalization of all sectors, the study notes. However, it also presents new cybersecurity threats as a result of new applications being used.

This Huawei whitepaper examines the latest achievements in IoT security research as well as best practices. The report also takes a look at how to create IoT security ecosystems by joining forces with governments, companies and certification associations.

This study explains that IoT security is usually involved in Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networking. It describes a series of elements related to LPWA that should be considered before designing the LPWA security solution.

Regarding the bicycle-sharing service, this paper shows that data transmitted must be encrypted to avoid cyberattacks. As for smart meter water, to avoid fraudulent attacks, a Boudica chip with trusted computing capabilities is provided. The report also takes a look at smart street lights in smart cities that could perform non-approved operations through malware by cybercriminals.

Another section of this report is about connected vehicles and takes a look at Huawei's connected vehicle solution which includes a connected vehicle cloud platform to make traveling easier and boosting security and safety.
