SUMMARY

The report reveals that investor capital, cloud 2.0, artificial intelligence, end-user power, data protection, preferred platforms, and a talent shortage are the main forces changing the enterprise software sector nowadays.

According to the paper, investors’ interest in enterprise software is increasing. At the same time, for software buyers, cloud 2.0 is expanding as more of them are shifting from traditional on-premise applications to native and other cloud applications. In that respect, it is estimated that over 70% of corporate workloads are expected to be housed in public-, hybrid-, or private-cloud settings. However, companies need to do more than just move to the cloud, the report explains, as they need to be cloud-native, running cloud applications that make the most of the cloud-computing delivery model.

Another force reshaping the software industry is AI, which is being used by early adopters as a strategic asset to boost digital transformation. Besides, more organizations use AI to increase revenue rather than to lower costs down. Regarding end-user power, the paper explains that business units and millennials are reshaping spending. Software purchasing is changing as millennials become a bigger part of theB2B buyer base, it is noted.

Data protection is another force reshaping the software sector while countries across the globe are implementing strict data privacy regulations. The report also makes a special mention of the talent shortage suffered by tech employers which is worsened by a skills gap and changing work preferences.

The report also points out other trends that are gaining ground to become even more important over the next few years. These are blockchain, 5G, Edge, and IoT, and Digital Twins, among others.
