This study on digital advertising reveals that spend is still on the rise and represents a larger share of all advertisement investments.

Digital advertisiment spend is expected to represent the largest portion of all U.S. ad spend by 2021, the report says. The research also indicates that overall viewability for desktop display ads is over 50%, which means that more than half of all display ads bought are never seen by anyone. 

The paper takes a look at the main digital ad markets and notes that China is expected to see the most growth in 2018 at nearly 14%. A significant number of companies had relatively low digital ad spend in 2017 but most of them expect to achieve double-digit growth in 2018. India is worth a mention with an expected 24% growth rate in 2018 and over 1 billion potential consumers. 

The research highlights that Asia-Pacific is also expected to overtake soon North America as the global leading destination for digital ad investments. 

The last couple of years, the study says, have seen a huge flow of money into the US programmatic video market. This segment is expected to continue growing but not as much as in the past years.

On the other hand, mobile overtook desktop in programmatic video ad spend in 2017, and the gap is expected to grow even more in 2018, the study found. 

Regarding native advertising on the open internet, this represented just less than $3.5 billion in spending. Programmatic mobile spend is still rising in the US and represented over 74% of all programmatic display spend in 2017. That percentage is expected to jump to 77.0% in 2018. 

The study concludes that organizations across the majority of sectors are expected to quickly embrace AI from 2018 onwards.
