Smart speakers are experiencing a quick adoption, the survey notes. That along with an increasing tendency to use such devices for internet buying will lead to the spread of voice commerce.

According to estimations, $5 billion will be spent through voice commerce over the next three years in the UK - 3% of online spend. For that reason, online retailers and consumer good companies should keep a close eye on this channel and include it as part of their E-Commerce strategy.

The prevalence of smartphones is boosting mobile commerce. And following the same rationale voice commerce is expected to become increasingly popular as a consequence of growing smart speaker sales - which have not stopped becoming more and more popular since 2014 when Amazon launched its first product into the market. 

The report also points out that nearly 50% of owners bought a product using their smart speaker over the last year. Voice shopping is currently valued at £0.2 billion - 0.1% of total online spend - but it is expected to grow significantly in the next five years as online consumers become more familiar with voice technology.
