The latest trends from our Q2 2019 survey of 6,752 developers

SUMMARY

This report found that out of 4.7 million cloud-native developers 1.7 million are using Kubernetes.

Kubernetes users are more likely to influence buying decisions, the paper reveals. According to this study, 3.3 million developers are also using serverless architectures and cloud functions. Over half of serverless users are using AWS Lambda. Besides, 68% of cloud-native developers are using AWS as a cloud hosting provider.

According to this paper, cloud-native and traditional developers are running code on on-premise servers at the same rate which shows that while cloud-native developers have embraced the flexibility that the cloud offers but have not abandoned their on-premise servers.

The paper also reveals that non-cloud-native backend developers, cloud-native backend developers, and the rest of the developers tend to use Google as a cloud platform at similar rates. Google’s cloud platform offers many web development tools, the study indicates, making it a popular option among front end developers. Front end developers tend also to use hosting services from large software vendors including IBM and Oracle.
