Our annual exploration of the UK’s viewing habits

SUMMARY

This report on mobile and UK TV viewers' habits notes that UK viewers highly value having access to programs on-demand via the BVOD service applications on their devices.

They mainly use this service to catch up on TV programs they have missed, the research explains. Viewers can also see growingly future episodes in a series before the linear transmission, it adds.

Smartphones had a revolutionary impact on how people experience television, as viewers can now watch what they want at any time. The paper's data shows that time spent with BVOD services on PCs, tablets, and smartphones just add around 1.3% to TV set viewing, and viewing is stabilizing at that point.

According to this document, different devices are appropriate for diverse audiences, genres, and programs, and diverse behavior patterns could come up over time.

The study also suggests that in 2018, time spent on unidentified viewing went up 20% of all TV set activity, a significant increase.

The report includes three articles by industry experts who discuss sporting broadcast, multiscreen data and TV campaigns' planning, and a joint industry standard.
