SUMMARY

This report on cybersecurity in UK businesses notes that small businesses are not putting as much time or funds into their cybersecurity compared to medium-sized businesses.

According to the document's findings, 30% of small businesses do not have any cyber security strategy in place. In the case of medium-sized companies that percentage goes down to only 4%. The report explains as well that small and medium-sized organizations count on lesser resources to face cyber attacks.

Regarding the differences between sectors, service industries, including the IT and telecoms and legal sectors, tend to have invested more in cybersecurity than other sectors such as the construction and transportation and distribution sectors.

The most usual reason why companies in the UK are investing in cybersecurity is by a large margin the introduction of GDPR. Other reasons are as follows: hearing about cybersecurity in the news; contractual agreements with third parties; professional advice; and knowing another company that suffered a cybersecurity attack.

The research recommends small and medium-sized businesses to take the necessary actions to reduce cyber risks while it suggests that larger businesses are in a good position to support their supply chain and small and medium business customers.
